Tough, slow-growing Sonoran native with tiny leaves and sharp green twigs that carry out photosynthesis. Typically blooms slightly later than Parkinsonia florida, with pale yellow flowers that draw in bees and native pollinators. Found on rocky slopes, bajadas, and desert uplands. Extremely drought-tolerant and long-lived, often used as a nurse plant for saguaros. Provides dappled shade and critical structure for desert ecosystems.
